KANPUR: Twenty-two days after a nurse's body was found hanging from a pillar on the roof of a Bangarmau hospital in Unnao, police exhumed her body for a second autopsy on Monday. The district magistrate had ordered a repeat postmortem after the nurse's family approached him, alleging she was raped and killed.
They had accused that the hospital operator and three others were behind the 'murder'.
However, the police, with the arrest of her alleged lover and going by the initial autopsy report, claimed that the nurse had hanged herself.
On April 30 morning, the body of the nurse, who came to work in the hospital was found hanging from the pillar on the terrace on the premises of the nursing home itself.
The mother of the deceased had initially lodged a report of rape and murder against three named accused and one unknown person of the hospital management. After registering an FIR, the police had sealed the hospital.
On Monday, on the orders of the DM, the body was taken out from the grave in the presence of SDM Safipur Ramskal Maurya, CO City Vikramajit Singh, SO Asiwan Anurag Singh.
A panel of three doctors did a re-postmortem of the body amidst videography and tight security. The relatives of the deceased were also present there.
The city magistrate and CO City Ashutosh Kumar also reached the spot and monitored the entire proceedings.
“On the application of family members of the deceased, the DM had ordered for a second postmortem following which the body of the nurse was exhumed on Monday from the grave and sent to district mortuary for autopsy. Further action will be initiated on the basis of the second autopsy report,” said ASP Shashishekahr Singh.
