MADHEPURA: Two persons died allegedly after consuming spurious liquor in Ghosai village under Chausa police station in Madhepura district since Sunday evening. The deceased were identified as Abhinav of Ghosai and his brother-in-law Alok Jha from Saharsa district.
Dr Amit Kumar, in charge of the primary health centre (PHC) at Chausa, said Alok was brought dead to the hospital.
He said two more persons from the same village were under treatment at other hospitals after they complained of vision loss and breathlessness. Alok’s body was hurriedly sent back to Saharsa.
Sources said initially, the four got some treatment at home, but were rushed to the hospital on Sunday after their conditions deteriorated. The two deceased, along with two others, identified as Prabhat and Avinash, had consumed spurious liquor in the village on Saturday evening. Subsequently, they complained of abdominal pain and started vomiting. Till other people could understand anything, the condition of Alok and Abhinav started deteriorating.
Abhinav was referred to Bhagalpur where he died during treatment on Monday. The two others were still struggling for survival.
Madhepura SSP Rajesh Kumar, however, said Alok’s father-in-law has accused one Prabhat Kumar and two other co-villagers of mixing poison in the cold drinks of his son and son-in-law.
