PATNA: Hundreds of students of
Magadh University took out a protest march in the state capital on Tuesday over the delay in examinations and start of academic session. The students raised slogans against the university authorities and state government and sought regularization of academic session for undergraduate and postgraduate courses.
The protesters tried to march towards the Raj Bhavan, but were stopped by the police midway at S K Memorial Hall near
Gandhi Maidan.
A scuffle broke out as the police attempted to remove the students from the road. The police allegedly resorted to lathicharge when the students tried to break the barricade and detained some of them.
Gandhi Maidan police and forces from other local police stations reached the spot to persuade the protesters. However, their attempt proved futile. “Students tried to enter the non-restricted area. The police used baton only to disperse the protesters. No one was hurt. If the students want to demonstrate they can do so at Gardanibagh,” said
Sunil Kumar Rajvanshi, incharge at Gandhi Maidan police station.
Police said the students were asked to send their representative to Raj Bhavan submit memorandum to the Governor, but they did not listen and continued with their protest.
One of the protesting students,
Nikhil Kumar, said, “Neither the university nor the government has been concerned about the future of thousands of students studying in Magadh University. We will continue our protest until our demands are met.”
