PATNA: State assembly speaker Vijay Kumar Sinha, who won the assembly election from Lakhisarai constituency on a BJP ticket, on Tuesday expressed serious concern over the “rising crime graph” in his home district and said he would apprise CM Nitish Kumar about it. The home portfolio is held by Nitish.
Talking to reporters in Lakhisarai, Sinha referred to the recent incidents of murder under Piparia police station in Lakhisarai district.
He said crime graph was increasing in the district as “corrupt police officers had been given field posting and honest officers sidelined”.
“The government’s mentality has to change. If corrupt officers are given field posting and also patronised, responsibility for the crime has to be also fixed,” Sinha said on Tuesday, adding he would discuss the matter with top police officers, including the DGP.
“Mere transfers will not change the situation,” Sinha said, adding the House committee will not sit silent on it. “I will inform the CM about the rising crime graph in Lakhisarai,” the Speaker said.
This is not the first time that Sinha has attacked the state government over the law and order situation in his district. In February, he had accused two police officers – an assistant sub-inspector and a DSP who were then posted at Birupur in Lakhisarai district -- of misbehaving with him. This led to heated exchange between the CM and the Speaker on the floor of the House. The ASI and the DSP were later transferred.
