A 14 plant cannabis farm has been found by police while searching an alleyway.

Last night at 4.50pm officers were dealing with an unrelated incident in the Bibby's Lane area of Bootle when they became suspicious of a house that appeared to be being used for growing cannabis. Upon searching the property police discovered a cannabis cultivation.

A 59-year-old man has been arrested in Suspicion of Producing a Controlled Drug Class B. He has since been released under investigation.

The seizures are the work of a special police team targeting criminals on the streets of South Sefton. Operation Pelican was set up in 2017 to disrupt gangs causing misery through drug dealing and shootings in Bootle, Netherton, Litherland, and neighbouring communities.

A spokesperson for Merseyside police said: "Officers dealing with an unrelated incident in the Bibby’s Lane area of Bootle at just before 4.50pm last night, Tuesday May 24, became aware of a strong smell of cannabis.

"They attended at an address nearby and following a search recovered 14 cannabis plants. A 59-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of producing a controlled drug Class B (cannabis). He has been released under investigation pending further enquiries."
