Aston Villa are reported to have been placed on “red alert” as Liverpool look to sell England midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain this summer.

The 28-year-old has made 29 appearances for the Reds across all competitions this season as Jurfen Klopp’s side attempted to win a quadruple. The versatile midfielder has been used as a squad rotation option by the German coach as the club look to compete for multiple trophies.

It has already been a busy transfer window for Villa , with the club having confirmed the second signing of the summer in Boubacar Kamara. Despite having added to his midfield options, Villa boss Steven Gerrard has now been linked with a move for Oxlade-Chamberlain.

The Mirror have reported that Villa have been put on “red alert” as Liverpool are prepared to “listen to offers” for the England international. It is claimed that Gerrard is a “long-term admirer” of Oxlade-Chamberlain, though Villa can apparently expect competition from West Ham United for his signature.

The former Arsenal midfielder is said to be valued by Liverpool “in excess of £10m” as he is set to enter the last year of his contract. Since moving from the Gunners in 2017, Oxlade-Chamberlain has made 133 appearances for the Reds but has not played for Jurgen Klopp’s side since March.

Though he spent 12 months on the sidelines after suffering a cruciate ligament injury in April 2018, Oxlade-Chamberlain did feature 30 times as Liverpool claimed their first Premier League title in 2020. Over the following two seasons, the midfielder has made a combined 46 appearances, after missing the first part of the 2020/21 season with a knee injury.

Oxlade–Chamberlain has picked up six major honours in his time as a Liverpool player so far, with the Champions League final still to come this weekend. Notably, Gerrard has spoken about the importance of adding players with a winning mentality to his squad.

“I really want winners in the dressing room,” the Villa boss said . “I don’t want players who are content with finishing 14th in the league and going out of cup competitions early.

“That’s got to hurt and we’ll try and set a culture and a standard here where it’s not acceptable to be inconsistent. That’s the challenge moving forward.”
