96th all India Marathi literary meet in Wardha
Nagpur: The 96th all India Marathi literary summit (Sahitya sammelan), a flagship annual event of Marathi Sahitya Mahamandal, the apex body of Marathi literary activities, will be held at Wardha, most probably in January 2023.
Usha Tambe, president of the Sahitya Mahamandal, announced this in Nagpur on Sunday.
Vidarbha Sahitya Sangh (VSS), one of the associate organizations of the Sahitya Mahamandal, is celebrating its centenary in 2022-23.
The VSS authorities had appealed to the Sahitya Mahamandal to organize this year’s literary summit in Wardha as it would be appropriate to have the biggest literary event of the year in Vidarbha while celebrating the centenary of the VSS. Accordingly, a team of Sahitya Mahamandal visited Wardha, inspected the venue, parking facilities, space for book exhibition, and residential arrangements there, and found them as ideal for the event.
Delayed due to the Covid pandemic, the 94th literary summit was held in Nashik and the 95th edition was organized in Udgir. The venue for the 96th summit was to be finalized at least six months prior to the event.
Secretary of the Sahitya Mahamandal Ujjwala Mehendale, treasurer Prakash Pagey, VSS secretary Vilas Manekar were present at the VSS hall when this announcement was made.
VSS Wardha branch coordinator Pradeep Datey ensured that the city is eager to host the literary summit and ready to welcome literature lovers from across the country. The last time Vidarbha hosted this summit was in 2019 when the event was held in Yavatmal.
