Patna: Two people, including one who had helped the police in arresting a liquor smuggler, were shot dead by criminals at Parmanandpur village under the Murliganj police station area in Madhepura district at midnight on Sunday.
The victims were identified as Manish Kumar (32) and Arun Yadav (45). Two others – Sudho Yadav (44) and Ganesh Yadav (50) – received gunshot injuries in the attack.
They were undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Saharsa in a critical condition.
According to locals, it was Manish who had provided information to police that led to the arrest of a liquor smuggler, Saurav Kumar, in Bhagalpur a couple of days back. Saurav’s brother Gautam Kumar, also a liquor smuggler, is the main accused in the murder of Manish and Arun.
Police said around 10 criminals surrounded Manish when he was returning home after attending a wedding ceremony on Sunday night.
