PATNA: A six-month-old child was allegedly killed with a sword by an unidentified criminal near Kathi bridge under the Kazi Mohammadpur police station area in Muzaffarpur district late on Wednesday evening.
The incident occurred when one Raja Patel, a vegetable trader, was on way to Motijheel on foot along with his six-month-old son, wife and father. Raja was carrying the child in his arms when the criminal attacked him with a sword.

It missed him by inches and hit his father on the neck. As Raja ducked when the criminal attacked him for the second time, the sword hit the toddler.
Locals rushed to the spot and took the child and his grandfather to sadar hospital. The child, Mahir Kumar, was referred to Sri Krishna Medical College and Hospital (SKMCH) after first aid at the sadar hospital. From SKMCH, the doctors referred him to a hospital in Patna. The child, however, died on way to the state capital.
According to locals, the criminal had covered his face with a scarf and he jumped off a 20-foot-high bridge and ran towards the rail track. The criminal then boarded a train and escaped.
SHO of Kazi Mohammadpur police station Satyendra Kumar Sinha said police have begun an investigation into the incident.
