Black Saturday in MP, dozens of people lost their lives in road accidents

Bhopal: Saturday became a black day for Madhya Pradesh. Twelve persons, including five women and three children, were killed in three separate road accidents in the Betul, Khandwa and Singrauli districts of the state. At least 35 people are also said to be injured in these incidents. According to the police, 18 of them were seriously injured.

Five persons, including two women, were killed and 23 others injured when a speeding tractor-trolley overturned on the Kesia-Kanhegaon road, about 10 km from Betul district headquarters. Chicholi police station in-charge Tarannum Khan said that 12 seriously injured persons were referred to the district hospital after primary treatment at the Community Health Centre, Chicholi. He said the people in the tractor-trolley were returning to Bondri village after attending a wedding function at Imlidhana.

In Khandwa also, two children and three women were killed when the tractor-trolley overturned. The accident took place near Dhanora village on Khirkia-Khalwa road under the Roshni police station area. At least 15 others were injured in the accident. SDOP Ravindra Vaskale said that around 35 people were travelling in the tractor-trolley going to Medhapani village after attending a function at Harsood. According to Vaskale, the condition of six persons is quite serious. They are undergoing treatment at Khandwa District Hospital. Mada police station in-charge Nagendra Singh said a man and a boy were killed when they were hit by a truck near Amarhawa village in Singrauli district. He said the boy's mother sitting behind was injured. He said the truck has been recovered and further legal action is being taken.
