CBI grills two TMC MLAs on Birbhum BJP worker’s death
Durgapur: CBI on Saturday questioned two Trinamool Congress MLAs for nearly two hours in connection with the murder of BJP worker Gaurav Sarkar at Ilambazar’s Gopalnagar after the assembly poll results on May 2, 2021. The agency is probing post-poll murder cases on the directions of the Calcutta High Court.
Labhpur MLA Abhijit Singha, close to TMC Birbhum president Anubrata Mondal, and Ketugram MLA Sekh Sahanawaz Jahan were quizzed at CBI’s camp office at Durgapur NIT guest house.

CBI sources said Mondal had called up the two MLAs on the day of the murder. Sleuths tracked the names from Mondal’s call records and wanted to know what they were about. Mondal was questioned for more than five hours on Thursday as a “witness”.
Singha said: “I didn’t get any notice. They called me on Friday and wanted my WhatsApp number before asking me to come for questioning. I am a law-abiding citizen and have come to cooperate with the investigating agency.” Sahanawaz said: “CBI officers called me and said my name was on the call list (Mondal’s). They wanted me to come to their office. I offered to join the questioning today.” tnn
