In an endeavour to minimize dependence on fossil fuels and to become Carbon Neutral Railway, the Eastern Railway is striving hard to generate green energy more & more by installing solar plants all over its jurisdiction.
In a step forward to achieve the target of Zero Carbon Emission, Eastern Railway’s Jamalpur Workshop has finalised the commissioning of a 3.7 MWP roof top/Shed solar power plant under the PPP model for 25 years.

The tender has been finalized with a tariff of Rs 5.43/KWH compared to the present tariff of Rs 6.7/KWH, which will enable saving of Rs 57.63 lakh annually.
The power plant will generate 12,432 units (approx.) of energy daily.
It will reduce carbon footprint of the Jamalpur workshop approximately by 47 per cent.
This project will be completed within the ongoing financial year, said chief public relations officer of ER Ekalabya Chakraborty.
