Four, including 2 girls, drown in Ganga in UP’s Fatehpur, 3 others rescued

PRAYAGRAJ: Four people, including two girls, all aged between 15 and 22 years, drowned while swimming in the Ganga at Matinpur village under the limits of Hussainganj police station of Fatehpur district early on Tuesday.
The deceased were identified as Zainab (18) of Sultanpur Ghosh village, Faizan (22) of Husainganj, Mohd Saif (20) of Husainganj, and Sophiya (15) of Jamrava village.
Three others, including Amreen (18) of Bakarganj, Anas (19) of Bakandha, and Anas (22) of Husainganj, were rescued by local swimmers and boatmen.

The incident, according to the police, occurred around 11am when a group of seven youngsters, including two girls, had gone for swimming when they were caught in a strong flow, taken into deep waters and they started drowning.
One of them raised an alarm. On seeing them drowning, local swimmers and boatmen jumped into the river and managed to bring three of them to safety. Unfortunately, the swimmers could not rescue four others.
Later, a team of Hussainganj police along with swimmers rushed to the spot and fished out their bodies, which were sent for post-mortem.
Station officer (Husainganj) RB Singh told TOI that many guests had come to one Amre Hasan’s house to attend his daughter’s wedding at Matinpur village on Monday night. “While some of the guests returned to their native villages, others decided to go for a swim into the Ganga, a few metres away from the wedding venue,” he added.
