25 cases in a day in Nagpur, first time since Feb 18
Nagpur: The region reported a rare spike of 32 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, which has happened for the first time after March 10. Nagpur district accounted for 25 cases, which means it reported a spike of 20+ for the first time after February 18.
Of the 25 new cases in the district, 15 are from the city — from Laxmi Nagar, Dharampeth, Hanuman Nagar, Satranjipura and Mangalwari zones.
Seven cases are from rural Nagpur, while 3 are other state patients.
The reason behind this spike is the airport-level testing of travellers coming especially from New Delhi. This testing started from Monday. The cases came to fore because of the mandatory testing policy that started on Sunday.
Majority of the 15 city patients and 3 from other states who tested positive on Tuesday are air travellers and none of them have any major symptoms. They would have remained undetected had the mandatory testing was not in place. None of them has any health issue, so they were allowed to go and advised to stay in home isolation for the next seven days.
Now, Nagpur district has 53 active cases but none of them are hospitalized. Even the one patient detected on Sunday having some mild symptoms could not be hospitalized as his SPO2 level was absolutely normal. This makes the patient unfit for hospital admissions.
Barring Nagpur, no other district in Vidarbha reported any such spike in new cases. Though the administration has said that daily random testing will increase, it was not be visible on Tuesday at least. Total 2,911 tests were conducted in the region. With 32 of them positive, the test positivity rate surpassed the 1% mark for the first time since March.

Apart from Nagpur’s 25, Washim and Chandrapur reported 2 new cases each, followed by Wardha, Gadchiroli and Buldhana reporting 1 each. Buldhana reported a new case after almost a month while Wardha also reported new case after 7 days. Barring Gondia, no district in Vidarbha has the ‘zero-Covid’ tag.
The region now has 94 patients under treatment, with 53 of them in Nagpur district alone. While cases are on the rise, almost all patients are recovering, that too, quickly. Total 14 patients recovered during the day.
June completed its first week on Tuesday with 97 new cases with 60 of them already recovered. This means a good recovery rate, controlled test positivity, and no death due to Covid-19. Hospitalization is also near-zero. All these are positive indicators showing that even though the cases may rise, the severity won’t be like the second wave. Majority of patients will recover either without symptoms or with some mild symptoms just like in the third wave.
