AURANGABAD: The
Beed police have detained four people after a 29-year-old woman died due to a botched-up illegal abortion. The arrested people include the woman’s family members. The deceased woman has been identified as
Seetabai, of
Bakkarwadi village. She was 18 weeks pregnant.
Beed SP Pankaj
Deshmukh told TOI, “The autopsy at the Beed civil hospital revealed she had died due to an illegal abortion.” He added the woman was under pressure to have a son as she already had three daughters.
Deshmukh said a person claiming to be a technician-cum-doctor had told the family that it was a female feotus. The family went to the Beed civil hospital on Friday. But the doctors there refused to terminate the pregnancy.
The family then contacted a woman who performed the illegal abortion on Sunday. However, as Seetabai was bleeding profusely, she was taken to a private hospital. Later, she was referred to the civil hospital, where the doctors declared her dead.
