A grieving father who just lost his four-year-old daughter was forced to do something a parent should never be made to - to carry the body on his shoulder because there was no ambulance.

The incident was reported from Buxwaha in Madhya Pradesh's Chhatarpur district on Monday, June 6.

Family could not get an ambulance after daughter died in hospital

The girl, identified as Radha had fallen ill on Monday, after which the family rushed her to the district hospital in Damoh, over 50 km from Buxwaha for treatment.

"But she died at the district hospital around 2 pm the same day. Thereafter, we asked for an ambulance to carry her mortal remains to our village, but were cold shouldered by the hospital staff," Mansukh Ahirwar, grandfather of the girl said.

"Left with no choice, we wrapped the child in a cloth, boarded a bus and reached Buxwaha as we did not have money to hire a private vehicle. Then we asked Buxwaha Nagar Panchayat to provide a vehicle to us so that we can take the body to our Paudi village, about five km from the tehsil headquarters, but we did not get a positive response," he added.

After that, the three members of the family, including the girl's father Laxman, took turns carrying the body in their arms to cover the distance.

They reportedly walked close to one kilometer with the body in their arms.

The incident came to light after videos of the family walking with the body were posted on social media.

After the videos went viral, Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Rahul Siladiya said a probe has been ordered into the incident.

However, he said that as soon as Baxwaha's chief municipal officer came to know about the incident, he sent a hearse to the Ahirwars.
