LUCKNOW: A trainee pilot had a narrow escape when a light aircraft operated by the Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Uran Akademi (IGRUA), Fursatganj, crash landed in Amethi on Monday morning.
The four-seater single piston engine light aircraft manufactured by a Chinese company based in Austria, crashed after making a hard landing around 10.40am about 8km away from IGRUA airfield in a farm field in Mohammadpur Churai village near Rae Bareli-Faizabad highway.

Residents rushed to the rescue of the pilot, Abhay Patel, who was in the cockpit of the mangled aircraft. Due to hard landing, the training aircraft’s front wheel had detached from it, while the left wing was destroyed. Patel, who was on his third solo sortie with a total of 28 hours of flying experience, escaped unhurt.
Visuals of the crash site went viral on social media.
“The cadet made a hard landing in a farm field but survived without a scratch. Air crash investigation team from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation will investigate the matter,” IGRUA director Krishnendu Gupta told TOI.
