Five killed in road accident in Bhagalpur, seven injured

Five people were killed and seven other got injured when a auto-rickshaw carrying a wedding party collided head on with a truck on the NH-31 in Naugachia in Bhagalpur district of Bihar on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday.

PATNA: Five people were killed and seven other got injured when a auto-rickshaw carrying a wedding party collided head on with a truck on the NH-31 in Naugachia in Bhagalpur district of Bihar on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday.
The accident took place near Marwa village under Jhandapur poilce outpost area of the district, when bridegroom party was going towards Narayanpur village for the marriage of Varun Kumar, son of Chatthu Mandal, resident of Pokhari Tola of Rampur Panchayat in Rupauli block in Purnea district.

The happiness of marriage has all of a sudden turned into mourning following the accident.
According to police five people died on the spot including father of the groom, while the condition of two persons is stated to be critical.
The accident was so intense that the auto was tossed in the air and landed around 25 metres away.
Bhupendra Kumar, SHO of Jhandapur OP, said the accident occurred between 12.30am and 1am on Tuesday, when the wedding procession, including three auto-rickshaws and an SUV was going to Narayanpur village for marriage ceremony.
“Two auto-rickshaws and an SUV, in which groom was sitting were quite ahead of the doomed auto-rickshaw. When the wedding procession reached near Marwa village, a speeding truck overtook a vehicle and rammed into auto-rickshaw. After the incident, the truck driver escaped leaving behind his vehicle,” he said.

The SHO told this newspaper that the police have seized the truck and investigating about its’ owner.
“On getting information about the accident, the police have took the bodies in their possession and sent to Naugachia sub-divisional hospital for treatment. Post-mortem of the five deceased, who suffered head injuries, was conducted at sub-divisional hospital while the injured are referred Mayaganj Hosipital for better treatment,” Kumar said.
The deceased were identified as Madan Mohan Mandal (40), Tinku Mandal (35), Chatthu Mandal (50), Sajadhar Mandal (55) and Gajendra Jha (43), all from the same family from Purnia district.
The police officials said an FIR has been registered under rash and negligent driving amounting to death against an unknown driver by the deceased’s family members.
Meanwhile, the Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has expressed deep condolences on the death of 5 persons in a road accident near Janta Darbar Dhaba in Bhagalpur district.
He has directed the Disaster Management Department to provide ex-gratia grant of Rs 4 lakh each to the bereaved family of each of the deceased. The CM has prayed to God to give strength to the bereaved families in this hour of grief. He also prayed to God for the speedy recovery of the injured in this accident.
