The much-awaited southwest monsoon set foot in the state on Thursday bringing rain in some coastal pockets and pulling down the mercury level by several notches.

BHUBANESWAR: The much-awaited southwest monsoon set foot in the state on Thursday bringing rain in some coastal pockets and pulling down the mercury level by several notches.
The rains covered Koraput, Malkangiri and Nabarangpur districts fully, while Nuapada, Kalahandi and Rayagada saw scattered wet spells.
The latest IMD bulletin said the conditions are favourable for the further advance of monsoon into the state over the next two to three days.

H R Biswas, head of the regional IMD centre (Bhubaneswar), described the timing of the arrival of monsoon as “normal” with plus/minus seven days. Monsoon usually sets in here by June 10 to 12.
