MUMBAI: The Maharashtra government has hiked the monthly allowance of the special C-60 commandos to Rs 8,000 from Rs 4,000. The special forces engaged in anti-Maoist operations in Gadchiroli district will be given this benefit.
Earlier this year, when Mumbai Police Commissioner Sanjay Pandey was the state DG, he visited Gadchiroli and said that a proposal will be moved to double the allowance of the special forces.

The order issued by the state home department said that since the C-60 commandos work in the line of fire to detect and uproot Maoist operations in the district, the state has approved doubling of the allowances.
Shiv Sena minister Eknath Shinde who is the guardian minister of the district during his recent visit to the district had said that the government will be looking into all the demands raised by the units to ensure that they function smoothly.
"This benefit has been given to the C-60 personnels working only in the Gadchiroli district and this benefit will not be applicable to any other unit," said the government order.
The C-60's have been engaged in anti-Maoist operations in some districts of the state and in one the biggest crackdown, in November last year, 26 Maoists were gunned down by the C-60 commandos and police during an encounter with the rebels.
