DTC, Metro ink pact for bus terminals
New Delhi: Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) and Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Friday in a bid to develop state-of-the-art bus terminals. Bus terminals at Nehru Place, Najafgarh, Azadpur, Mehrauli, and Narela have been identified for development in the initial phase.
The Delhi government, in a statement, said DTC and DMRC would jointly select a ‘self-sustainable’ model between public-private partnership (PPP), property business, or deposit work model for the project.
An empowered committee headed by the DTC chairman, comprising two members each from DTC and DMRC will monitor the implementation of the project.
“Delhi’s public buses and metro are the lifelines of the city and both DTC and DMRC are organisations which carry a lot of technical and operational expertise and experience,” transport minister Kailash Gahlot said.
“I am hopeful that the coming together of these two organisations will be successful in creating state-of-the-art bus terminals, which we will soon be able to dedicate to the Delhi public,” he said.
The statement said that DMRC will incorporate green building features and also keep in view features of universal design to be user-friendly for disabled persons and accessibility features for persons with disabilities. TNN
