Cop dies by suicide, blames Yavatmal SP
Yavatmal: Head constable Vishnu Sakharam Korde (54), who was attached to Pusad police, died by suicide on Friday. He hanged himself at his Laxmi Nagar residence. In his two-page suicide note, Korde blamed Yavatmal SP Dilip Patil Bhujbal. He alleged that Bhujbal did not clear his medical reimbursement claims.
Meanwhile, Bhujbal denied Korde’s allegations.
“I did no wrong. Korde’s medical reimbursement bills were returned for rectification,” said Bhujbal, adding, the entire case is transparent and that all the relevant documents are in his office for scrutiny.
While explaining Korde’s service track record, Bhujbal said the deceased was caught red-handed by the anti-corruption bureau in 2015 and was suspended by the then SP Akileshkumar Singh. A departmental inquiry was also conducted by the then SDPO Yavatmal Madhuri Baviskar, added Bhujbal.
Later, complainant Gajanan Rathod changed his earlier version and gave a statement in Korde’s favour. Accordingly, Korde was reinstated in 2016. In 2017, Korde was transfered to Bitergaon police station. Korde met with an accident in Dhanki in April 2020. He was on medical leave since then. However, he was transferred to Yavatmal police headquarters in 2021 but didn’t report for work due to ill health.
“Korde was paid his salary and allowances on humanitarian grounds,” said Bhujbal.
Regarding the CBI probe demanded by Korde in his suicide note, Bhujbal said the higher authorities would take a call and that he would cooperate with them.
Top police officials paid a condolence visit to the bereaved family. Bhujbal said he would follow suit.
Korde is survived by his wife, three daughters and a brother. The last rites were performed on Friday.
Pusad police have registered a case of accidental death. An investigation under the supervision of Pusad SDPO Anil Ade is under way.
