NEW DELHI: A 47-year-old man allegedly thrashed and smothered his wife to death at their house in south Delhi's Sultanpur on Thursday. The couple was inebriated when the wife refused to serve dinner and the man killed her.
He then went to sleep next to the body and only realised she was dead after he woke up. The man has been arrested.
The husband, Vinod Kumar Dubey, is a resident of Sultanpur, who had fled after realising his wife was dead.
Around 9.20am on Friday, police got information that Dubey had killed his wife Sonali (39) during a quarrel.
A police team that reached the spot questioned locals and found that Dubey was absconding. “His location was pinpointed with technical surveillance and he was arrested. A total of Rs 43,280 in cash along with a bag of his belongings, two half bottles of liquor and one blood-stained pillow was seized from him,” said DCP (south) Pawan Kumar.
During interrogation, Dubey told police that he had been married since 2008. He said both he and his wife consumed alcohol on Thursday night, and when he asked her to bring dinner for him, she refused. “An argument started between them over this, during which his wife slapped him. He got furious and thrashed his wife and then smothered her using the pillow. The next morning he took some cash and tried to flee but was caught,” the DCP said.
