BENGALURU: The state capital shone in II PU results, accounting for seven toppers in the first three ranks in science and all four first rank holders in commerce. Indu Independent PU College from Kottur continued its reign in the arts stream with six students sharing the top four ranks.
The others top 10 rank holders in commerce are from Dakshina Kananda, Ramanagara and Tumakuru.
In science, the top seven students are from Bengaluru.
SIMRAN SESHA RAO | Science, RV PU College, Jayanagar
I am proud of myself that all the minutes and seconds I put in and the sacrifices I made finally paid off,” said an overwhelmed Simran as she faced media in the college. Crediting her college and faculty for her success, she said her brother was a pillar of support. Simran wants to pursue computer science engineering in one of the top colleges, like her parents. Her brother is an aerospace engineering student. “The amount of hard work she was putting in shocked us,” said her mother, adding that Simran gave up her hobbies. “None of us has seen such willpower,” she said.
NEELU SINGH | Commerce, BGS PU College
Originally from Uttar Pradesh, Neelu shifted to Bengaluru in 2013. “I have only one tip for aspirants — keep revising. I revised the portions multiple times,” she said. While learning new musical instruments — currently guitar — has been her passion that she developed when Covid did not allow her to step out, Neelu said to have offline classes again was a major relief. “Online classes were not very effective. It was easy to get distracted. I feel I was able to focus only when I was back in class,” she said.

NEHA B | Commerce, SBGNS Rural Composite PU College
I want to pursue CA, and eventually, attempt the civil services exam. My lecturers have been insisting that I make an attempt. I credit my teachers for my performance,” said Neha B, daughter of a homemaker and an agriculturalist who grows grapes. Her elder brother is pursuing BE and sister MBBS. “My parents had no issues when I wanted to take up commerce,” she said. A state level throw-ball player, Neha now enjoys playing cricket on weekends with her family and friends. Hard work is the only way to score well, she adds.
AKASH DAS | Commerce, St Clarets Composite PU College
For this topper, gardening has been the biggest stressbuster. “What helped me score was that I efficiently managed the one-month study leave that I had. While I spent 4-5 hours on studies, I would still dedicate 1-2 hours to gardening every day,” he said. “It keeps me relaxed. I have ornamental and flowering plants. I feel happy to see a clean environment,” he said. Akash plans to do B Com with CA, but is yet to choose the college. “While I was going with the flow when I chose commerce, my interest in it increased over two years. Now, I am totally invested in the subjects,” he said.
MAANAV VINAY KEJRIWAL | Commerce, Jain PU College
It is double delight at the house of commerce topper Maanav (in white). While he scored 596 marks in commerce, his twin brother bagged 586 in the science stream. “We are fraternal twins and have been different in our own ways. While I chose commerce, he picked science. While I am more into debates, he is into sports. I do not have regular study timings, but he has more of a regular schedule. We have separate rooms and do not intrude in each other’s study times,” said Maanav. He will join Christ University for B Com Hons and plans to pursue CA or CMA. “While I regularly revised the last day’s lessons, it was the consolidated short notes that I prepared on a day-to-day basis that helped me do well,” he said.
