HYDERABAD: A proposal for a dedicated electrical substation and water tank by residents of Tellapur has been hanging fire for a while as the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) is yet to respond to pleas to allocate land.
With over one lakh residential units likely to come up in Tellapur in the next five years, residents fear that unless the two issues are resolved quickly, the area is set to face hard times.

While the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply & Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) is ready to construct a water tank and had written a letter to HMDA seeking allocation of land, there has been no response.
The HMWS&SB letter of September 22, 2021, reads, “To provide water supply to newly developed housing colonies and gated communities in Tellapur municipality, it is necessary to construct a new reservoir and its appurtenances at an elevated place.”
HMWS&SB also wrote to TSIIC for land in Ramachandrapuram. They received a reply with a demand for Rs 1.6 crore to provide land.
Similarly, the Telangana State Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (TSSPDCL) too wrote to HMDA way back in May 2018, requesting one acre to construct a new 33/11 KV substation to cater to Tellapur, Ramachandrapuram and Kollur areas.
“Owing to this distance, even a small disruption to the line would leave entire Tellapur without power. Even the TSSPDCL noted in the letter that the existing substation is nearing full load capacities. It’s been four years, but the HMDA has not bothered to even respond,” Tellapur Neighborhood Association (TeNA) president Ramana Eshwaragiri told TOI.
