Archeologists said the dolmen had a rock art which looked like a ‘cross’ mark
KRISHNAGIRI: A team of archeologists from the district have discovered a dolmen belonging to 2000 BC at Ikuntham Thenmalai — a hillock. Head of the team and the curator of the district museum C Govindaraj said that their team also found a rock art in red on the dolmen. “The rock art looks like a ‘cross’ mark,” he said.
“We have determined the age of the dolmen after comparing it with records of such dolmens that have ‘cross’ marks on it belonging to 2000 BC.
By comparing those findings, we concluded that this dolmen’s age would be 2000 BC,” Govindaraj said. “Dolmens usually will have two or more upright stones supporting a horizontal stone slab. But, this dolmen has a big boulder placed on three small stones, an unusual one,” he said. The team has sent the details of the dolmen to Chennai head office for further research. He said more information would be ascertained if the state starts excavation work in this village.
