LUCKNOW: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Governor Anandiben Patel led the celebrations for the 8th International Day of Yoga on Tuesday by doing yoga on the sprawling lawns of the Raj Bhavan. A large number of state ministers, bureaucrats and eminent citizens attend the celebration.

The Chief Minister, speaking on the occasion, said that yoga was an excellent way to maintain a healthy body and mind, and that this had been shown beyond a shadow of a doubt during the Covid-19 pandemic. Kashi, Mathura, Gorakhpur, Naimish Dham, Chitrakoot, and Bithoor, among other places, have made particular arrangements for mass yoga practise.

Meanwhile, Ministers took part in different programmes in the areas that they were assigned to.  The celebrations in Prayagraj were led by Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak, while his counterpart Keshav Maurya was in Ayodhya. A huge number of nodal officials will also take part in yoga sessions that will be hosted throughout the state.

Several schools, private organisations, social clubs, and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) also made events to commemorate the anniversary.

On Tuesday, approximately 5 crore people attended celebrations across the state, according to a state government spokeswoman.
