A government primary school under Puttur block education office has suspended its operations due to zero admissions this academic year. This is the first school to shut down in Puttur BEO limits this year.

MANGALURU: A government primary school under Puttur block education office has suspended its operations due to zero admissions this academic year.
This is the first school to shut down in Puttur BEO limits this year. The school started 38 years ago is in Korameru in Ichlampady village of Kadaba taluk.
Puttur block education officer Lokesh C said the school had Classes 1 to 5.
With mushrooming of private English-medium schools and parents unwilling to send their children to Kannada medium, the school was witnessing a dip in admissions for the past eight years.
Dakshina Kannada deputy director of public instruction K Sudhakar told TOI that they have not received any request so far for school closure.
