Citizens, youth take active part in Yoga Day events

With asanas under the supervision of yoga gurus, Kanpur city on Tuesday observed the 8th International Yoga Day. Citizens performed yoga several places of the city to mark the day.

Kanpur: With asanas under the supervision of yoga gurus, Kanpur city on Tuesday observed the 8th International Yoga Day. Citizens performed yoga several places of the city to mark the day.
Around 4,000 people, including Satish Mahana, Speaker of the legislative assembly, Raj Shekhar, Divisional commissioner, Vishak G Iyer, District magistrate, mayor Pramila Pandey and MLA Surendra Maithani performed yoga asanas at Green park International Stadium under the guidance of Art of Living gurus.

The yoga guru passed a message that cleanliness leads to good health and prosperity and yoga is essential for a healthy life, therefore every one should include yoga in their lifestyle.
Satish Mahana inaugurated the yoga function by lighting a lamp and yoga torch. A number of youths participated in the event and performed Surya Namaskar, Virabhadrasana and other asanas.
After yoga, the organizers played patriotic songs. Trained yoga experts performed dance in the form of yoga exercises which attracted the participants. The district administration also distributed around 4,000 saplings of guava ,pomegranate , and gooseberries to them.
Kanpur Development Authority (KDA) organized yoga at the botanical garden and 75 other parks of the city. At botanical garden, vice-chairmanArvind Singh, MP Devendra Singh Bhole and Satyadeo Pachauri, MLA Abhijeet Singh Sanga and around 500 nature lovers assembled to perform exercise and asanas. Several citizens also appeared at the Tulsivan yoga function.

At Sanjay Van, two camps of yoga were organized in which around 600 local residents participated and performed yogic exercises on guidance of yoga gurus. Chatrapati Sahu ji Maharaj University to observed yoga day. Vice-chancellor Vinay Pathak, university staff and students took part in the event. Satyadeo Pachauri MP was also present there.
Pt Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Sanatan Dharm school also observed the day in which present and former students, and teachers participated. Principal Rakesh Ram Tripathi inaugurated the function and yoga teacher Sonali Dhanwanni and yoga guru Ajay Mishra demonstrated and guided in performing yoga asanas.
Judicial officials and court employees too participated in Green Park program in compliance of State Legal Services Authority, Lucknow. Anshu Shukla, secretary, district legal service authority stated that she and Shailendra Yadav, chief metropolitan magistrate, visited district jail and created awareness about yoga among under trials and others.
