Reopen Ghazipur abattoir, pleads meat body
New Delhi: Fearing major losses and a threat to the livelihood due to the closing of the Ghazipur slaughterhouse for the past 22 days, Delhi Meat Merchant Association has appealed to the Centre and the state government for immediate intervention. In a series of letters to multiple authorities, including LG V K Saxena, the Union home ministry, the Delhi food and supplies department, the minority commission and MP Harsh Vardhan, the association last week requested for urgent intervention to reopen the facility.
Arshad Qureshi, its president, said that after its closure following a decision by Delhi Pollution Control Committee, supply of meat from the rest of NCR had increased. “The current situation has impacted us, our families, employees and thousand others associated with the trade,” he said. TNN
