MUMBAI: The Railway Protection Force (RPF) teams of Western Railway apprehended thieves involved in five different theft cases in a single day under Operation Yatri Suraksha.
Till date, 226 thieves and 16 robbery accused have been apprehended by RPF Mumbai division in 2022, said WR chief spokesperson Sumit Thakur.
He further said that the latest arrests were made on June 19.

"Based on CCTV surveillance, the RPF teams caught suspected mobile thieves from Malad, Virar and Surat stations while two persons were arrested in pickpocket cases in Nalasopara and Vasai Road stations," he said.
"The RPF teams collect information from CCTV footage, do the analysis of black spots in and around the stations and also maintain records of previous criminals. Installation of CCTV cameras at stations in suburban sections has helped a lot in identifying suspects and detecting cases," he added.
Last year, more than 2,700 new CCTVs were installed in Churchgate - Virar suburban section while 86 CCTVs were installed at Surat station.
"With these excellent results, the RPF is motivated to intensify the drive under Operative Yatri Suraksha in near future," Thakur added.
