NOIDA: At 125, Gautam Budh Nagar reported more than 100 new Covid cases since May 3 on Tuesday. May 3 had seen 170 new cases. The number of active cases is now 606 in the district.
As many as 81 patients recovered from the disease on Tuesday, while 15 patients are still undergoing treatment at Covid facilities. Neighbouring Ghaziabad reported 55 cases on Tuesday, taking the active cases to 317.
Seven patients are in hospitals in the district.
Hospitalisations in GB Nagar from January to February 2022, when the district was going through the third Covid wave, had reached 70. Similarly, in Ghaziabad, during the peak of the third wave early this year, 45-50 patients had been admitted to the Covid facilities.
The testing is still low in both districts though officials said it would go up soon. GB Nagar is currently conducting more than two thousand tests daily. On Tuesday, Ghaziabad tested 4,900 samples.
Though both the districts are seeing admissions in Covid facilities of late, doctors said that none of the patients are in severe condition and do not require oxygen support. However, the doctors pointed out that compared to the third wave of Covid, the infection is a little severe now, requiring consultation with doctors to avoid further complications.
Dr Rakesh Gupta, district surveillance officer, Ghaziabad, said, “Compared to the last wave, the severity is slightly more. In case of any symptoms, people must see a doctor immediately and get tested. The admissions in facilities are of people with comorbidities, not specifically due to Covid infection.”

“The Covid numbers show that the infection is spreading. The testing is low now, but we can expect more positive cases as it is scaled up. Patients have the same symptoms from the earlier waves, but their fever persists for five to seven days,” said Dr Sharad Joshi, associate director, pulmonology, Max Super Speciality Hospital, Vaishali.
