Nitin Deshmukh, a Shiv Sena MLA from Balapur in Akola district who reportedly went missing on Monday, returned to Maharashtra from Gujarat on Wednesday. He claimed a conspiracy by the Gujarat police and others to kill him. He said he supports Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and went with rebel party colleague Eknath Shinde just because he is a minister.
Speaking to media persons at the Nagpur airport, he said, “I am Chattrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s sainik (soldier). The Gujarat police cannot harm me. I am alright. Yesterday, the Gujarat police forcibly took me to a hospital. They told people that I got an (heart) attack. They then told me that they want to take some action against me. I want to make it clear that I neither suffered a heart attack and nor had my blood pressure increased. They had an evil intention behind spreading the rumour that I had suffered a heart attack. At the hospital, about 20 to 25 people caught me and I was forcibly administered an injection. I do not know why that injection was given to me and what it contained. Their plan was to cause me harm.”

Responding to a question on whether he was still with Uddhav Thackeray, Deshmukh said, “I am Thackeray’s Sainik and I am with him.”
Asked what Eknath Shinde told him when he took him to Gujarat, the Sena MLA added, “He is our minister and so I went with him. But I am Thackeray saheb’s Sainik. I have spoken with Uddhav saheb. I am now going home.”
Asked what transpired in Gujarat, he said, “I left the hotel at 12 am on Tuesday. Till 3 am, I was on the road waiting for a lift. About 100 to 200 police personnel were after me. I was desperately trying to get a lift but they were not allowing me to board any vehicle. Then about 100 police personnel took me to a hospital. Then they floated a rumour that I had suffered a heart attack. They tried to send out a message that I was unwell while administering wrong treatment with an intention to kill me. But by god’s grace, I am fine.”
On Tuesday, Deshmukh’s wife had approached the Civil Lines police station in Akola informing them that her husband had gone ‘missing’. A team from Akola police had also left for Gujarat by road to find him.
