According to a senior officer, informing police about unnatural deaths is a must and is important to avoid legal hurdles in future.
The family and relatives of anyone dying unnaturally should inform jurisdictional police about the same.
Jagadish’s parents and relatives rushed to the spot and brought down his body. But they did not inform police about the death and cremated him by 11.30am.
Assistant sub-inspector Krishnappa and head constable Mutturaj, both attached to Magadi police station were on patrol duty on Sunday morning. They came to know about Jagadish’s death and the family preparing for his cremation. The cops rushed to the spot to stop the cremation, but before they could reach the venue, the family members and relatives of Jagadish had finished his last rites.
Police have registered a case against Jagadish’s parents Nagaraju and Padma and other relatives who participated in the final rites.
The case was registered under IPC sections 176 (omission to give notice or information to public servant by person legally bound to give it) and 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of offence, or giving false information to screen offender).
