Chandigarh: TheBharatiya Janata Party (BJP) may have managed to capture more than half of the cities in the Haryana municipal elections, but from the CM to the deputy CM and four ministers, they have suffered political defeats in their respective home constituencies. In Karnal, the home district of CM Manohar Lal Khattar, the BJP has lost three civic bodies. Deputy CM Dushyant Chautala could not win the alliance candidate in the municipality of his home assembly constituency Uchana. Not only this, many ministers of the Khattar government could not even save their stronghold in the urban body elections.

Out of the 46 bodies in 21 districts of the state, 22 have been captured by the BJP on its own, while in three cities, the alliance partner JJP managed to win. With this, independents have won in 19 bodies, while aam aadmi party (AAP) has won in one city and INLD in one body. Aap, which is contesting the body elections for the first time in the state, managed to open an account. At the same time, the Congress did not contest on the party's symbol in the civic body elections, but in some places it supported independents.

The BJP has lost three of the four civic body seats in Karnal district, the home turf of CM Khattar. Bjp candidate for the post of president in Tarawadi municipal body of Karnal, Rajiv Narang, was defeated by independent Virendra Bansal by 538 votes. A similar picture was painted for the BJP on the post of president of the district's Asandh municipal body. Congress-backed candidate Satish Kataria defeated BJP's Kamaljit Singh Ladi by 553 votes. In addition, independent candidate Romi Singla defeated BJP leader Janak Popli by 2300 votes in Nising. While all the bjp's veteran leaders could not win in their strongholds, the party still managed to establish its supremacy by winning its president in 22 out of 46 municipalities.
