PATNA: A major mishap was averted as the loco pilot of Hatia-Purnia Kosi Express (18626) applied an emergency brake to stop the train after it got entangled in live broken overhead electric wires near Purnia court on Wednesday night.
According to a Samastipur division railway official, the train had left Saharsa around 10pm on Wednesday. The train was hardly 7km away from Purnia court station. The loco pilot applied an emergency brake and stopped the train.
As the wires were live, sparkles caused panic among passengers. Movement of trains on the route remained disrupted from 12.45am to 3.45am. While Mahnari-Jayanagar Janki Express was detained for about three hours at Purnia court station, some other passenger trains remained stranded at other stations for hours.
