PRAYAGRAJ: Police arrested a notorious criminal Vivek Yadav alias Vivek Bagi, a resident of Gangapur, Bairia in Ballia district, and his four gang members from the Civil Lines area on Thursday and seized a car, one country-made pistol of 0.315 bore along with live cartridges and five crude bombs from his possession.
SSP Prayagraj Ajay Kumar told reporters, “While investigating the incident of bomb hurling at Harish Dhaba in the city on June 20, we came to know about the involvement of an inter-district gang involved in many criminal activities and arrested its five active members of the gang, including the kingpin Vivek Yadav.
They had been taking shelter in the hostel of Allahabad University.”
Yadav told police that many criminals take shelter in hostels and prepare crude bombs after arranging material from Chowk and other areas. These crude bombs were used to create panic. The gang members were also involved in grabbing plots.
Yadav was an ex-student of AU and as many as seven criminal cases were pending against him. When police tightened the noose around him, Yadav completed his BA from Kanpur university but kept visiting AU hostels.
SSP said there are eight members in the gang and police teams are conducting raids to nab three other members.
Police said the gang members were taking shelter in room nos. 4, 30 and 70 at Holland Hall of Allahabad University and were involved in criminal activities. The gang members hail from Mau, Ghazipur, Ballia, Amethi, Pratapgarh, and Jaunpur districts.
