NOIDA: The Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority (GNIDA) is planning to introduce electric buses in the township on the lines of Ghaziabad and other districts.
A meeting, officials said, would be held soon with the company that has been running such services in other districts. There is also a plan to connect the buses with Noida so that the project is financially viable.
Surendra Singh, the GNIDA CEO, said the project was in the dormant stage.
On January 6, the GNIDA had already started a city bus service on five routes in collaboration with the UP Roadways. Officials said they would expand the service with e-buses.
As part of the plan, GNIDA will also upgrade its 75 bus stops, with each having a charging station for e-vehicles, phone chargers and other kiosks. Historical facts about a few districts will also be put on display along with background music. These apart, 25 new bus shelters would be built in Noida Extension.
The Authority and consultant agency E&Y are identifying the locations where bus shelters can be built.
Officials said passengers would be able to get real-time updates on bus timings on the display board at each stop as well. There will also be parking lots for 10 scooters and bikes at each shelter and three charging stations. Toilets will also be built.
“The bus shelters of Greater Noida will not only be a place to wait for buses but also enhance knowledge of various districts in the state. For instance, there will be information about the brass industry of Moradabad, perfumes of Kannauj and bangles of Firozabad on the display board. Besides, major tourist destinations will also be showcased,” Singh said.

The shelters would be upgraded on a built, operate and transfer (BOT) basis. The urban services department of the Authority will upload the request for proposal (RFP) of this project soon. The company that will manage the shelters will also be given advertising rights for 15 years. This will also generate income for the Authority.
The GNIDA has entrusted its advisory body, E&Y, to prepare the RFP for this project. The organisation is in the process of finalising it, officials said. After that, tenders will be floated. GNIDA plans to complete this project in a year, Singh said.
