BEGUSARAI: A nightie-clad thief decamped with cash and jewellery worth ₹5 lakh after committing a burglary in a house under Lohia Nagar police outpost in Begusarai district on Wednesday night. He also took away a licensed gun from the house.
However, his act was captured in the CCTV cameras installed at the house. In the video footage, a barefoot masked man, clad in a nighty, entered the house through a window and after ensuring that no is awake in the night, he moved to other rooms and stole the valuables kept in several almirahs.
"It was only in the morning when we came to know about the theft," claimed house owner Sanjiv Kumar Singh, who runs a petrol pump.
"All members of the family after taking dinner retired to bed by 11:30pm. It is surprising that none of us got awake even as the thief broke open the almirahs kept in our rooms to take away the cash and jewellery. My licensed revolver, which was kept in one of the almirahs of my room, was also taken away," he said.
Lohia Nagar police outpost SHO Amarjeet said that from the CCTV footage it emerged that only one miscreant was involved in the crime. "A case with regard to theft of ₹5 lakh cash and jewellery has been lodged and it is being investigated," he added.
