Ikea effect: Bengaluru's Nagasandra Metro station witnesses increase in footfall

Nagasandra Metro station’s daily footfall increased by 5,467 on Wednesday, the day when Swedish home furnishings retailer Ikea opened. Ikea is located behind Nagasandra Metro station on the Green Line. BMRCL records show daily footfall at Nagasandra increased from 13,799 on Tuesday to 19,266 on Wednesday.

BENGALURU: Nagasandra Metro station’s daily footfall increased by 5,467 on Wednesday, the day when Swedish home furnishings retailer Ikea opened.
Ikea is located behind Nagasandra Metro station on the Green Line. BMRCL records show daily footfall at Nagasandra increased from 13,799 on Tuesday to 19,266 on Wednesday.
BMRCL CPRO BL Yashavanth Chavan said: “We are monitoring the footfall trends at Nagasandra station, especially on weekends.
More people using the mass transit system is a good sign and people travelling to Ikea could save time...”
Ikea is also constructing a foot-over-bridge (FoB) from its store to the station located on Tumakuru Road. The FoB, which will give direct connectivity between the station and the Ikea store, is expected to be ready by December 2022.
In 2017, BMRCL had generated Rs 251 crore by leasing 13 acres to Ikea India Pvt Ltd near Nagasandra on Tumakuru Road for 60 years.
