Jipmer professor appointed AIIMS Patna executive director

PUDUCHERRY: Dr Gopal Krushna Pal, a professor of physiology at Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (Jipmer), has been appointed as executive director of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (Aiims), Patna.
The appointments committee of the cabinet, department of personnel and training, Union personnel, public grievances and pensions made an announcement in this regard on June 23.
G K Pal has served as dean of faculty of medicine at Pondicherry University and programme director and faculty-in-charge of Advanced Centre for Yoga, Jipmer.
An expert in neurophysiology of food and water intake, regulation of body weight, obesity, diabetes, gestational diabetes, hypertension, gestational hypertension, experimental physiology and yoga, Pal has published more than 220 research papers in reputed national and international journals.
He has 2,675 citations in ResearchGate, RG score of 39.05 and h-index 29, considered a unique research achievement by an academician in physiology.
Author of five medical textbooks, Pal was given Fellowship title (FRBS) of Royal Society of Biology, UK in 2020 recognizing his contribution in the field of biomedical research. He was a recipient of Fellowship Title of Indian association of biomedical scientists (IABMS), Society of Applied Biotechnology, and Federation of Biotechnology.
The New York Academy of Sciences has nominated him as an honorary member of the academy recognizing his contribution in the field of biomedical research.
A gold medallist in the final MBBS examination, Pal was a recipient of the Shyamabati Dubey Award for his outstanding performance. He did MD and PhD in physiology from Jipmer. Pal joined as a permanent faculty member at Jipmer in 1996.
