Vadodara: Three dupe 63 by promising jobs in ONGC, held

The local crime branch (LCB) team busted a gang that duped citizens of lakhs of rupees by promising jobs in the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC). Three persons were arrested and the cops said that they are trying to ascertain if more persons were involved in the scam.

VADODARA: The local crime branch (LCB) team busted a gang that duped citizens of lakhs of rupees by promising jobs in the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC). Three persons were arrested and the cops said that they are trying to ascertain if more persons were involved in the scam. The gang has duped 63 persons and collected Rs 84.25 lakh from them by promising jobs.
The police said that they had received a tip-off that a man was promising jobs in ONGC and he was to meet a woman in the city.
The cops detained the man who identified himself as Vijay Thakore, a resident of Anand. Purvi Gajjar, who he was trying to dupe, filed a complaint against Thakore at Gotri police station.
Thakore told the cops that he and his two accomplices used to tell people that they have good contacts in ONGC. They used to promise contractual jobs of different positions to the victims and take money from them by showing fake documents. The two other accused, who were arrested, have been identified as Vishnu Chaudhary and Mehul Patel, both residents of Maharashtra.
The police said that it was interrogating the accused to find out if they have cheated people in other states. Also, the focus is on recovering the money they had collected from the victims.
