THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The health department of the city corporation removed nine unauthorized Thattukada (roadside eateries) on the Kowdiar-Kuravankonam Road stretch on Friday.
The action was taken following complaints from residents and pedestrians about the eateries obstructing traffic and pedestrians. The complaints on the same were also raised at the Janamaithri police meeting.

The eateries were removed by a team led by Nandancode health inspector S S Minu.
According to the official, the corporation has already given the notice to the vendors regarding the unauthorized trade along the roadside seven days ago. Most of the vendors had already left the places and a few had remained there. Following this, the officials had visited them at the place and asked them to leave the place. But, they did not leave.
He added that it was at this point the authority has decided to remove them .
“We have removed nine eateries today and we will be removing the other vehicles, which are coming to the places at night. Shops which are causing inconvenience to the public will be removed in the upcoming days,” said Minu.
