LUCKNOW: Calling majoritarianism as a threat to the diversity of India, Prof Nadeem Hasnain called upon people of all walks of life to unite to safeguard democracy in the country.
Prof Hasnain is ex-head of anthropology department of Lucknow University and former pro-vice chancellor of the Wardha-based Mahatma Gandhi International Hindi University. He was delivering Arjun Prasad Memorial Lecture on 'Diversity in India and increasing majoritarianism, a threat to Democracy' at UP Press Club on Friday.

Prof Hasnain said that incorrect facts from history are being used to create hate among majority and minority communities. He also said that majoritarianism not only targets minorities, but also those among the majority community who believe in secular and democratic values of the constitution. “People, particularly the youth, will have to unite and protect the diversity of the country and thus strengthen democracy,” he added.
