Lucknow: Play depicts woes of transgenders at Buddha Research Institute

Problems faced by transgenders in their lives and how society can embrace them formed the theme of an event organised at Buddha Research Institute in the city on Friday. A play ‘Mai hi Sandhya, Mai hi Usha’ based on some real life stories of transgenders of Kolkata was also statged.

Lucknow: Problems faced by transgenders in their lives and how society can embrace them formed the theme of an event organised at Buddha Research Institute in the city on Friday.

Former West Bengal governor Keshari Nath Tripathi was the chief guest on the occasion.
He attended the programme online. Former head of Hindi department, Lucknow University, Prof SP Dixit, Vidhya Bindu Singh and former chief secretary of UP Shambhunath were the main speakers.
Directed by Shubham Tiwari, the 50-minute play depicted the financial and social issues faced by transgenders and prejudices among them in the society including their families. Written by Bhartendu Kashyap, the play was based on a story penned by Pandey after she saw the ill treatment and miseries of transgenders on the streets of Kolkata.
A book by writer and educationist Karuna Pandey was also released on the occasion.
