NEW DELHI: Two minor girls who were employed as domestic staff at a house in Sukhdev Vihar in South East Delhi were rescued on Thursday night in a joint operation of Bachpan Bachao Andolan activists, labour department and police.
The rescued girls said they were beaten up for petty mistakes. The girls were sent to child care institutions on Friday.
Shanti (name changed), 16, and Aparna (name changed) 17, said they were employed in the house for the past two months.

They are sisters and came to Delhi from Chhattisgarh with one Basant, who was a resident of their village. At the time of rescue, both minors were clothed in tatters and had no footwear.
After the rescue, an emotional Shanti said she had not received a proper meal in the last two months. Aparna said she came to Delhi on the false promise of better future prospects.
“Most of the children working as domestic help in the national capital region are trafficked from other states,” said Manish Sharma, director, Bachpan Bachao Andolan.
