New cases down to 124, 103 recover
Nagpur: New Covid cases in Vidarbha went down to 124 and recoveries increased to 103 on Friday. Since June 7, new cases have been going up and down on alternate days. This was the fifth occasion when there were over cases in a day. On previous occasions, cases had decreased significantly after crossing the 100-mark, before shooting up again.
There are 685 patients under treatment in the region now.
Nagpur district recorded the day’s highest cases and recoveries — 65 and 60, respectively. Yavatmal reported 11 new cases while figures from Washim (16) and Buldhana (10) too were concerning.
The districts collectively conducted 5,026 tests, which were around 1,000 less than a day before.
The Covid graph has been puzzling public health officials, experts and local administrators in Vidarbha. Though more new cases are being reported, the growth hasn’t been like it was during the last three waves. This month, 1,308 cases have been recorded against 722 recoveries. No Covid death has been reported anywhere across the 11 districts so far.
The numbers have reaffirmed that vaccination has been quite effective in fending off the threat of new variants, which continue to emerge. However, vaccine reluctance is still prevailing among people who have remained unvaccinated or partially vaccinated. Many kids too are yet to take the jab despite being eligible.
