NEW DELHI: Tired of being blackmailed for marriage and extortion, a 26-year-old man from Shahjahanpur in Uttar Pradesh allegedly followed a woman to Delhi, killed her and dumped her body near a farmhouse in South West district before returning to his hometown. The woman had come to the city to visit her relatives when the suspect asked her to accompany him for a night tour.
The suspect has been arrested.
DCP (Dwarka) Harsha Vardhan said the murder was cracked within 24 hours and the accused was arrested after multiple raids in Delhi and UP. “The accused was in an illicit relationship with the woman and committed the murder to get rid of her as he was being allegedly threatened,” added the DCP.
The mobile phone of the victim and clothes worn by the accused at the time of commission of the crime have been recovered.
The PCR got a call regarding a body lying near a farm in Mohan Garden. A woman was found strangled with her chunni. A case of murder and destruction of evidence was registered and a team led by ACP Vijay Kumar and inspector Naveen Kumar was formed to probe the case. The victim was identified as a resident of UP, who had come to Delhi a week ago to meet her sister-in-law.
CCTV footage from around the spot and call details of the victim were analysed and informers were deployed to get information. Cops then zeroed in on Ajay. He was tracked through technical surveillance. Raids were conducted at his possible hideouts in Delhi and UP and he was finally nabbed from Uttam Nagar.
During interrogation, it was revealed that Ajay came in contact with the victim about a year ago and entered into a relationship. “A few weeks before the murder, the victim started demanding money from him and also threatened to implicate him in a false case. The accused then made a plan to murder her,” said Vardhan.
On the day of the incident, Ajay picked up the victim from Mohan Garden. At midnight, he murdered the victim by strangulating her using her chunni and fled the spot.
