LUCKNOW: Unidentified miscreants created a fake email ID of an NRI professor serving in the US and sent out a mail to the bank requesting them to change the account in which his salary is credited. However, timely response and alert led him to foil the attempt of cyber fraudsters. After the victim was informed of the tampering attempt, he lodged a case with the Hussainganj police in Lucknow.
Abhijeet Mazumdar, a professor of journalism at Park University in the United States, is a resident of Murli Nagar at Cantonment Road in Hussainganj.

Mazumdar was told by the bank in which he had a salary account about an email through which he had requested a change in the bank account details (ATM and others). The revelation made him surprised as he had not sent any email to this effect and he contacted the bank officials who provided him the e-mail details.
He later reached Lucknow where he lodged a case with the police. "Someone has created a fake e-mail ID using my details. He sent a request to the bank where I have a salary account. I complained to the Cyber Cell and was asked to lodge an FIR," he said.
Assistant commissioner of police, Hazratganj, Akhilesh Kumar Singh, said that an FIR has been registered and efforts are on to trace the accused.
