Lucknow: 'Domestic help' hired via app decamps with Rs 2 lakh

LUCKNOW: Beware if you are surfing the internet to look for domestic help through websites. In two recent cases, victims had searched for house help on the internet through an app and were duped. Police suspect it to be the handiwork of a gang based in Jharkhand.
In the case of victim Jasneet Singh Maan of SGPGI locality, a domestic help decamped with Rs 2 lakh.
Maan, who has a touring job, had contacted an app for a house help. A few hours later, he received a call from one Vinod Chauhan, who introduced himself as an agent. He said Maan would get a domestic help but would have to pay Rs 42,000, said police.
While Rs 6,500 had to be paid in advance as salary for four months, another Rs 2,000 was travelling allowance for the help, and Rs 14,000 as commission to Chauhan.
Maan trusted the caller and transferred the amount in four different accounts as directed.
On June 14, Chauhan sent a woman from Jharkhand to work in Maan's house.
"The woman, Loreg Dung, stayed in Maan's house for barely two days and on the second night, decamped with Rs 2 lakh kept in the cupboard. She had taken the keys from Maan's parents' room," the FIR said.
Maan also said he had seen CCTV camera footage of Dung going out from the house around 4.20am on June 16 without taking her belongings. He lodged an FIR with SGPGI police. ACP, Cantonment, Archana Singh, said that a hunt was on to nab the accused.
"We have named Loreg Dung, Anup Kumar, Vinod Chauhan, Pankaj Kumar, Dhananjay Kumar under charges of criminal breach of trust," said Singh.
